Of all the places I’ve lived, so far this is my favourite. It’s allowed us to have a quality of life you don’t find in Europe, because down here there’s room for everyone, so there’s not a sense of enclosure, and living too close. People are less angry. This is of course a massive generalisation, but as a subconscious reflex, I think it’s true to say that in Southern England at any rate, people tend to anger, and obsession with what other people think of them.
I feel like a knot that’s unravelling, letting go the anger and depression that I didn’t know was there. The atmosphere here just doesn’t feed that kind of energy.
